Having Ukrainians brainstorm the smells of their childhood, the following smells come into their minds: Fresh flowers, bread, marketplace, diesel, perfume, snow, rain, river, forest bonfires and many more. Around Lviv and the villages the wonderful perfume of pink peonies accompanies the springtime. The smell of freshly ground coffee in many Coffee Houses belongs to the Ukraine all year long. A Ukrainian classic is the dark black bread, evoking memories of 'smelling' the fresh bread before eating it. And of course, fragrances and herbs of the rich Ukrainian home-cooked food comes into every Ukrainians mind when thinking about typical smells of their country. The fresh, pure air of the Carpathian Mountains is a happy memory for those lucky enough to have encountered it.
